There seems to be somewhat of a trend developing here. Back in 2006 when the PS3 was launched, it came with full backwards compatibility features. Later on down the line Sony released it’s 160GB model. This model contained backwards compatibility support for PS1 titles, but is sorely lacking in PS2 support. The two models now on the market are the 80GB, and the 160GB. The 80GB model is capable of ‘partial’ backwards compatibility through software emulation. Now, however, comes the source of my concern, the Nintendo DSi. This updated version of the fun handheld is to be released with a slew of gizmos and features, such as: two built-in digital cameras, larger screens than the original, improved speakers, and an SD card slot, among others. Sounds like a nifty device does it not? Unfortunately, with all these new improvements, comes the complete removal of any GBA game support. Now there are those of you going “So? I bought my DS to play DS games, fool”, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, this is heart-breaking for gamers like myself who adore the feeling of popping in a classic title and just losing yourself in the nostalgia. Does anyone else remember when gaming was about video games, and not what kind of extra shit your system could do that the rival’s couldn’t?
